Biography

Tarran ‘Taz’ Mackenzie, Son of three-time BSB champion Niall Mackenzie, started his road racing career in 2006, competing on Mini Motos. In 2009, Mackenzie competed on 125cc machinery and enjoyed years competing across the Aprilia Superteens, British Motostar and the Red Bull Rookies Cup.

After spending two years with the Red Bull Rookies Cup, he returned to Britain to compete in the Pirelli National Superstock 600 Championship, where he spent two years, finishing tenth in 2014 and third in 2015.

A year later, Mackenzie made his stunning British Supersport debut, claiming the title in his rookie year – racking up five victories and a further ten podium finishes.

Mackenzie remained in Supersport, however, after dominating the opening six races, he replaced Danny Kent in the Moto2 World Championship, where he competed from round five.

Mackenzie then returned to Britain in 2018, joining McAMS Yamaha. Mackenzie’s debut season in Bennetts BSB saw the Ashby-De-La-Zouch rider claim four podiums in the second half of 2018.

Mackenzie remained with the team for 2019 where he took his maiden race win and added a further four podiums to his record, securing his place in the Showdown, where he ultimately ended the year fifth overall.

Then in 2020, Makenzie was back to winning ways with the McAMS Yamaha team, claiming two wins and a further four podium finishes to end fifth in the overall championship standings.

The 25-year-old emulated his Father’s success 25 years later by claiming his first BSB title in 2021, the 25th anniversary season of the series, with McAMS Yamaha, securing the Bennetts British Superbike Championship crown with ten victories and a further nine podium finishes.
