Danny Kent topped the times on the opening morning of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship R&G Official Test at Circuito de Navarra, saving his best until last with his final lap of the session putting the McAMS Racing Yamaha team ahead by 0.230s.
Kent moved ahead of Glenn Irwin and the Hager PBM Ducati team in the closing moments of the first session, giving him a 0.230s advantage as the opening track time concluded.
DAO Racing Honda’s Josh Brookes continued his momentum from a recent shakedown at the Monteblanco circuit to post the third fastest time of the morning, just ahead of Honda Racing UK pairing Andrew Irwin and Tommy Bridewell.
Leon Haslam had a strong debut with the Moto Rapido Ducati Racing team as he reunited with Ducati for his first laps of the season; the ‘Pocket Rocket’ ending the opening session in sixth place ahead of MasterMac Honda Racing UK’s Charlie Nesbitt and Bennetts BSB debutant John McPhee.
Fraser Rogers led the TAG Honda times in ninth place, just ahead of Rory Skinner who completed the top ten.
8TEN BMW Motorrad team Davey Todd and Peter Hickman complete this test on Superstock specification machines, posting times to complete the top 12 riders. Billy McConnell, Lee Jackson and Jaimie van Sikkelerus rounded out the top 15 Bennetts BSB riders on track ahead of rookies Scott Swann and Jamie Davis.
Storm Stacey also made his official on track debut this morning with the Bathams AJN Racing BMW team, ending the morning just ahead of Luke Hedger and rookie Blaze Baker.
Lewis Rollo crashed during the morning session causing a red flag. He was taken to the Medical Centre and has subsequently been sent to hospital for an x-ray and further precautionary checks to address pain in his lower back.
