Bathams Racing have announced that following a number of guest appearances by owner Michael Rutter in the inaugural season on the BMW F 900 R Cup series, the team will be supporting Christian and Kieran Smith for the 2024 season.
The 18-year-old twins finished the 2023 championship in fifth and seventh position respectively in their debut season having graduated to the series after two seasons in the Junior Supersport category.
The Smith twins caught Rutter’s eye during the 2023 campaign and Bathams Racing will now offer mentorship and support and along with regular sponsors Bowker Motorrad and SCH Moto Prep.
Rutter said: “This is great for Bathams Racing. We’re keen to help out promising talent where we see it, and if possible be part of an up and coming riders journey – in this case there’s two of them! Helping Christian and Kieran on their journey, expands our support of young talent into the British Championship paddock.
“I did a handful of the BMW F 900 R Cup rounds last year, and was impressed with just how competitive the series was. So, for anyone to consistently finish as high up as Christian and Kieran did at all the rounds, on what were by far the most powerful bikes they’ve raced to that point, is really impressive. Myself and the rest of Bathams Racing are genuinely excited by the potential of the two lads, and are really looking forward to getting stuck into the championship with them and their other sponsors.”
