Nesbitt: “It’s like a game of chess around Thruxton!”

07 August 2024

Charlie Nesbitt scored his first Bennetts British Superbike Championship podium finish last year as a rookie at Thruxton and now the MasterMac Honda rider is bidding to make it a repeat performance with the MasterMac Honda team.

The highlight of the season so far has been a fifth place at Knockhill, as Nesbitt targets further success at this home round.

Nesbitt said: “Last year Thruxton was absolutely mega to be fair, I didn’t expect it to be fair - everything clicked and everything worked from the get go. I am really hoping to be able to do the same this year – it is my home round, it’s one of my favourite circuits on the calendar because it is so fast and flowing. You have to manage the tyre but still be fast, there is a lot to think about and a lot that goes into it. There is a lot of technicality with the riding, it’s like a game of chess around Thruxton!

“The season so far has been really good, every race we have been faster overall on race times compared to last year and we are making good solid progress, but so has everyone else! It is going to be a case of doing the best we can and aiming to push towards the front as with every race the gap is getting smaller and we are coming, we just need to get there a little bit faster from my riding point of view.

“The team have been fantastic, they have given me everything I need and I am really looking forward to the rest of the season and seeing what we can do. Now I just can’t wait to get going this weekend.”
