Christian Iddon maintained his top three position in the Bennetts British Superbike Championship standings after Brands Hatch and the Oxford Products Racing Ducati rider is now just five points adrift of Glenn Irwin ahead of him as the title battle reaches Thruxton this weekend.
Iddon was victorious at Knockhill but has also added a further seven podium finishes to his tally as he continues to build momentum to his championship campaign for the Oxford Products Racing Ducati team, as Thruxton marks their home round.
Iddon said: “The season so far has been really positive, obviously we're currently third in the championship and I'm keeping a strong eye on the positions at the top because that’s all I want really, and all the team want.
“We've had a strong and positive start, we had a good winter, we had a strong first round and it carried on from there. What has been pleasing is that not only have we been good at our good rounds, where everything has gone to plan, but we’ve also been able to keep dragging out results when things have been difficult and things have gone against us.
“We’ve had a fair few things thrown at us, probably most notably was when I crashed at Donington in the first race and picked up a few niggly injuries and that was a difficult weekend, but we still pulled through and scored some strong results and then bounced back at the following round pretty well. All conditions we have been good and it’s looking good. I feel like my confidence is growing round on round if I’m honest with you.
“Thruxton is obviously the team’s home round so we’ve got a lot of motivation and we also want to do a good job for our team owner Steve, who is in hospital and we send him our best wishes. Clearly, Thruxton throws up some interesting issues for us on our bike, but I’m going into the weekend open minded.
“I’m excited, I enjoy Thruxton, I’ve always liked it, it’s something completely different and something I don’t think you get anywhere else in the world. As much as it’s tough for us it’s also enjoyable to ride so we are going to make the most of the scenario we’re faced with when we get there, just keep an eye on the head of that championship and try and stay as close as possible because the Showdown is coming up very soon!”
