The Bennetts British Superbike Championship paddock community paid tribute to Damon Rees with a minute's silence on the grid at Snetterton this afternoon.
Rees will be sadly missed and fondly remembered in the paddock following his tragic passing after a short battle with illness on Friday 30 June.
Rees first arrived in the UK in March 2020 with his partner Talia, who he recently married, just before the country was forced into lockdown with the support of Carl Cox who had been a keen follower of his career. He went on to make an impressive debut in the Pirelli National Superstock Championship where celebrated two podium finishes in his opening race weekend at Donington Park.
Most recently, Rees competed in the Quattro Group British Supersport Championship, where he came close to a podium with a fourth place at Cadwell Park last year and was building momentum with top ten finishes this season.
Before arriving in the UK, Rees had celebrated title success in his native New Zealand, winning the New Zealand Supersport Championship in 2017 before moving on to finish runner-up in NZSBK the following season, whilst also competing in the Australian domestic series.
