O’Halloran eager to get Brands Hatch started

21 July 2023

McAMS Yamaha’s Jason O'Halloran is ready to come out fighting to add to his winning tally in the 2023 Bennetts British Superbike Championship this weekend at Brands Hatch as he bids to replicate his success from last season at the Kent circuit.

O’Halloran won at Donington Park and was back on the podium last time out at Snetterton and the Australian is keen to exploit the strength of the Yamaha R1 at the Kent circuit as he aims to close down the deficit in the standings.

O’Halloran said: “I always look forward to Brands Hatch, I have had some really strong results there in the last couple of years and have won plenty of races there and podiums. The summer round last year I won one, then had a couple of second places so I have good memories from the place.

“The Yamaha always works well at Brands Hatch and it is a track that I have always got on well with; I expect this year to be super competitive. I think coming off the back of Snetterton I feel positive and I feel happy with how I raced, but I also felt disappointed that we didn’t get more from the weekend as I felt that my speed deserved more results wise but it just wasn’t quite possible.

“The races were difficult and it was tough to stay ahead - when you get passed on the straight it makes it tough, but we did the best we could. I felt disappointed about the first race on Sunday, because I feel like I just got myself in the position in the lead and had got two or three bike lengths which was probably enough to stay ahead, and it could have been a good result. But all in all, it was still a strong weekend and I am happy with how I am riding and it gives us good momentum to head to Brands Hatch.

“I expect Brands Hatch to be super tough; I think that it will be interesting to see how the races pan out there, we have one long straight there, so hopefully we can stay ahead, but there are probably more passing opportunities for us at Brands Hatch with the flowing nature of the Grand Prix part of the circuit. I think there will be more chances to be in the fight right at the front so I can’t wait to get started. I feel like the next two rounds at Brands Hatch and Thruxton for us can be really strong and I am feeling really good in myself and seeing what we can achieve over the weekend.”
