Jones makes emotional return to Brands Hatch to complete on track lap

25 July 2022

Brad Jones made an incredible return to Brands Hatch during last weekend’s round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship, completing a lap to the grid a year to the day following his high-speed crash that left him seriously injured.

Jones crashed during the Superbike race last July and was immediately treated trackside by the BSB Medical Team, after sustaining serious injuries, before he was transferred to hospital and initially placed in a coma. However, the Dorset rider has continued a remarkable recovery and having visited several events since his accident, he was back on track for a BMW lap to the grid to the delight of the Bennetts BSB fans who gave him a rapturous reception.

Jones said: "To be back at Brands Hatch a year on to the day was amazing, but to do a lap was the icing on the cake. If you had told me that would happen whilst I was laid in the hospital, I would have thought that it was the medication I was on doing the talking! It was a surreal feeling to chat to Larry on the grid and waiting in kit felt just like old times.

“The support has been overwhelming all the way the through and that was backed up again yesterday. All I have left to say is thank you to each and every person who has supported me, those close to me for keeping me motivated to keep pushing all the way through my rehab and to BSB for making the lap happen."
