Former Bennetts BSB Showdown contender Luke Mossey has agreed a one-year-deal with the TAG Racing Honda team for the 2022 Bennetts British Superbike Championship, and will also contest the final round of the 2021 season at Brands Hatch onboard the Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP.
Following a challenging 2021 season the team have signed Royston-based Mossey who returns to the Superbike class following a fantastic campaign in the Pirelli National Superstock Championship, which has seen him take three victories and four podiums to date.
Mossey, a two-time Bennetts BSB race winner, has enjoyed a varied career and has titles of BSB Riders Cup Champion 2015 and 2016 Showdown challenger. The ‘Skywalker’ has set his sights on being a Title Fighter once again in 2022 as he looks to fulfil the potential of the Fireblade.
The 29-year-old-old will take to the track today for his first laps onboard the CBR1000RR-R and is aiming to produce a solid opening weekend with the team as he looks to settle in quickly onboard his new machine.
The team have also secured support from Honda Racing UK for a second successive year, continuing a strong working partnership that has developed. Shaun Winfield meanwhile will once again line up in the Pirelli National Superstock Championship.
Mossey said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be back in the Superbike class next year with TAG Racing Honda, they’re a fantastic team and certainly have the same vision as I do for 2022.
“From my first conversations with Gary and Rob they impressed me with their passion for the project, and how much effort goes in behind the scenes. I’ve recently sat on the bike to confirm my riding position and straight away it felt like a pure race bike, and that excites me. With a good amount of seat time this weekend and during pre-season I’m sure we’ll be where we should be, up at the front and challenging for the top five each weekend.
“I’m heading into this weekend with a calm head, it’s going to be a busy one contesting in both the Superbike and Superstock classes, but I’m always up for a challenge. It’s important I don’t get carried away with myself, I need to get an understanding of how the bike feels and make steady progress as we go through the weekend.
“I’m excited for the challenge that this weekend and 2022 will bring, I know that I am a front runner in BSB and I’m fully confident we have the right package to prove that me and the team can do it.”
Team manager Gary Winfield: “It’s exciting to announce our plans for the 2022 season so early, we have a clear vision of where we want to go with the project and Luke is aligned with those visions. First of all, I want to thank Dan Linfoot for all his hard work over the three years he’s been with us, he’s been a model professional throughout all the good and bad times and we wish him the best of luck for the future.
“With Luke we feel we have a rider who is hard working and will provide vital and key feedback to keep us developing the Fireblade. He will have the race weekend at Brands Hatch to make him comfortable and find his feet, we aren’t putting any pressure on his shoulders this weekend, but we know the racer in him will certainly come out.
“We have ambitions to be back up the sharp end of the Championship and Luke certainly wants that, so together we have a passion to succeed and with the continued support from Honda Racing UK we feel we have a fantastic package to do just that.
“With Shaun returning for a third season in the Pirelli National Superstock Championship we expect him to be challenging each weekend, he’s had a tough year in 2021 with arm pump and developing a new bike, but with that now behind him we feel he’ll back to where he should be. It’s shaping up to be an exciting year for TAG Racing in 2022.”
