Danny Buchan is the only rider on the current Bennetts British Superbike Championship grid who has been victorious at Knockhill, and the SYNETIQ BMW rider is targeting his first podium finish of the season as the series returns this weekend (July 10-11).
Buchan had a best result of fourth place at the Oulton Park season opener and as the championship reaches Scotland, anticipation is high for a strong showing with the BMW M 1000 RR.
Buchan said: “Oulton Park was a bit of an up and down weekend really. I started the weekend pretty strong and was top-three, top-four and felt really strong, but then I sort of put myself on the back foot and qualified twelfth.
“For race one we opted for the harder option tyre which was probably a bit of a mistake on my behalf really because the track temperature was high and that gave me the twelfth fastest lap for the next race and I was on the back foot again. And round there, unless you’ve qualified on the front it’s so hard to get with the leaders and keep with them.
“Race two wasn’t bad, I was fourth in that one which was good, and then race three we made another change to the bike and it just wasn’t how we wanted it to be, and that was good enough for eighth. Overall it wasn’t bad, there’s still lots to explore on the BMW and obviously it’s a new bike for the team, and a new bike for myself so we’re learning how to get the best out of everything.
“I’m looking forward to this weekend. I’ve always had good experiences at Knockhill and always had good results. I think that from the test we did there the BMW worked really well and I’m open minded on the actual results. I’d obviously like to get on the podium, but ultimately I’d just like to come away with three strong points finishes, that is the goal.”
