TAS Racing stepped up to the British Superbike Championship in
2008 after four successful seasons in the British Supersport
Championship. The Relentless-liveried Suzuki squad moved to BSB as
the reigning British Supersport champions with Michael Laverty. In
2008 Laverty proved that the Relentless Suzuki by TAS squad could
mix it at the front with the already established teams in the
paddock and in their second season they are looking to build on
their experiences from their debut year and look for a maiden
podium finish and more in 2009.
The team were also on the British Supersport Championship grid
in 2008 with Ian Lowry for a third consecutive season and he ended
the year third in the standings after a tally of five podium
finishes including two race wins. Lowry has progressed with the
team to BSB for the new season and will be joined by Atsushi
Watanabe who returned for a second season in BSB.
In 2009 Lowry had some impressive performances in his BSB rookie
season, with a best finish of fourth at Cadwell Park and the final
round at Oulton Park. Watanabe though failed to deliver the results
and languished down the final championship standings. The team
lifted the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 Championship crown
with Alastair Seeley dominating the title chase with an impressive
nine race wins. The team then promoted him to BSB, with the newly
crowned champion debuted the new Evolution specification Relentless
Suzuki at Silverstone where he scored a top ten finish. Seeley
moves to the Superbike team full-time in 2010 with his team-mate
yet to be signed.
The Irish TAS Racing team is managed by Philip Neill and the
squad initially started competitive racing on the roads in 2001.
Since their inception they have amassed an impressive
résumé including lap records and wins at all the
major road race events including the Isle of Man TT, North West 200
and the Ulster Grand Prix.
